In April, Pine Tree Society’s Early Learning Center celebrated the Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association.
Head to our Facebook page to see all the photos of this year’s activities.
Music Monday — We sang “Tap Tap Tap Big Lines” while following all the directions. Making music — especially if it includes tapping, clapping, bouncing and dancing — can help develop fine and large motor control.
Tasty Tuesday — We like to try new snacks with a variety of textures and flavors. Early childhood is a critical time for establishing food preferences and dietary habits.
Work Together Wednesday — Working together with friends to design, build and problem-solve using Magnatiles and Legos. Cooperative play allows children to work together towards a common goal instead of in opposition to one another or in pursuit of winning.
Artsy Thursday: Painting at the Easel — Creative learning projects can foster a child’s natural imagination and also helps them develop other essential life skills that will stay with them for years to come. Arts and crafts provide a fun and interactive way for children to practice things like their fine motor skills and problem-solving capabilities.
Family Friday: Caring for Babies — Dramatic play is a powerful tool for children’s emotional development. By acting out pretend scenarios and roleplaying a variety of imaginary interactions, preschoolers learn to process, understand and express their emotions in different, healthy ways.
Pine Tree Society’s Early Learning Center in Auburn provides early intervention and educational programming for children ages three to six. While each child comes to us with unique strengths and challenges, we see a common goal for all of our students: To foster a love of learning that will set a strong foundation for the future.
